Construction Details:

The coat is made of a simple non-stretch cotton, which I chose because it was an easy material to work with which wouldn't get too warm in the summer. I worked with one of my friends from school to create a bodice pattern to fit me, and used that for the upper half of the coat. The front of the coat is a few inches shorter than the back, because I wanted the shoes I'd be wearing to be seen.

I used bias tape for the hems and the lines, which helped the design look very neat, which was the look I was going for. I wanted a really clean cut silhouette, and the bias tape really helped achieve that. I used a thin, rope trim for the button holes along the side which I hand sewed into place. I used the same trim on her hat to unify the costume, though I'm likely to remake the hat for future cons.

Personal Thoughts:

Mindfang was one of those characters that I knew I had to cosplay the moment she was introduced. I was enamored by her silhouette (which is really all you saw in the comic) and her characterization.

So when one of my friends told me they were organizing an Ancestor group for Katsucon 18, I jumped at the chance to cosplay her. I'm really quite happy with how she turned out, considering that I haven't been sewing for very long.
