About this Costume
Construction Details:
I've had this twill print for years, and have wanted to make something with it for a long time. When I remembered Dapper Day, that seemed as good a goal as any. I found the coat, which is fabulous, at a TJ Maxx (just needed to swap out the buttons), and the gloves at a Marshall's, used some shoes I had, and made the rest.
The bag was based on a vintage Disneyland shopping bag I turned up in an image search, and was painted the day before the event. It was a little rushed, and I think I might try to do better next time.
The hat was a really fun learning experience, and I'm super pleased with how it turned out. It's got two hair combs attached, so it was secured to the wig, and it's fully lined and finished. It took a long time over a pot of boiling water, stretching the felt over a hat form, but I'm so happy with it.
This was really well received and a huge amount of fun to wear.
Personal Thoughts:
This was an enormous amount of fun to wear, and I'm really glad I finally got around to using that print I've had forever!
