Construction Details:

I remember seeing Erza's transformation and falling in love with those pants! And I thought it would be a relatively easy costume to make. Oh how wrong I was. Although I'm very happy with the outcome.

I made my own pattern for the pants, using a pair of my own as a guide. I had a lot of trouble trying to figure out how to do the white belt thingies, and they really don't serve any purpose on my costume other than decorative.

The flame design was...interesting. The yellow was sewn onto the red pants and then I hand sewed all the black bias tape to cover the raw edges of the yellow. Yup, a lot of handsewing. And it was extra annoying because the flames are all wavy and bias tape does not take well to curves, in my opinion.

The double swords were pink insulation foam that I wood glued, painted with gesso primer and then spray painted. I remember trying to paint it literally an hour before we were leaving for Youmacon 0_o And they sadly need to be remade because one of the broke after being packed away in the car from Ohayocon. Note to self: pink insulation foam snaps really easily when it's cold out.

The wig wasn't the exact color I wanted, but I liked the feel and length, so I'm settling. The tattoo the first time (Youmacon) was free-hand drawn by my bestie (she's amazing) but then I ordered temporary tattoo paper off the internet (for Ohayocon) and that stuff works well too. Plus it doesn't smudge like the permanent marker did! The only issue I had with the tattoo paper was the edges started to peel back pretty quick, so I had to refrain from picking at it! But at the end of the day it peeled off with no mess, so I guess that's good. And I know that Erza doesn't wear geta, but I can't go walking around the con with shoes off (eewwww!)

Oh, and I made my boyfriend's Natsu :3 The wig bothers me because it was cut too short, but I liked how the rest turned out.
