About this Costume
Construction Details:
This is an original dress designed by me! I sketched a few things that looked like something a human Rarity would wear, then turned the ideas into something I could actually make to suit my proportions. The final result was princess seams, halter neckline, and basque waistline with three tiers of skirts.

The fabric is glitter satin and the middle dress tier is glitter tulle... it seemed like a good idea at time time, but that stuff is way more mess than it's worth. I nicknamed the dress "glitterbomb" because of it! The tulle layer is trimmed with bias tape I made from taffeta and the cutie mark on the side of the top skirt tier is loose glitter stuck on with lots of glue. The gems are strategically glued+bedazzled to my liking, though I can't keep myself from thinking that I still need more.

I also made a small purse from scratch with Rarity's cutie mark on it. Very useful for full days at the convention and it matches the costume so I didn't have to put it down for pictures!

The only things I cannot take credit for are the ears and horn (ordered from Yaya) and the shoes--those came that fabulous!
Personal Thoughts:
It must have been the nostalgia factor mixed in with lovable characters and excellent writing because when my friends hinted that they wanted to cosplay from Friendship is Magic, I watched the show and fell in love. What really sold me was the opportunity to design something myself. The attention the Pony costumes and my boyfriend's Spike hoodie got was really overwhelming. I had a lot of fun cosplaying with so many of my friends, and that's really what this "Friendship is Magic" thing was all about. I'm really glad I did this!

Styling Notes
What holds that top curl into place, exactly? It's a combination of obscene amounts of hairspray, spray glue, and strategically placed bobby pins. The large top curl was sectioned and set in place with various sprays + hair dryer heat. All of the ringlets were done using velvety hot rollers, as were the bangs. I'm extremely proud of the results! I almost can't believe the wig started out completely straight.
Wig Review
The wig is the main reason I picked Rarity for our MLP group! I really wanted to emphasize the voluminous curl she has. Arda's wigs are just full enough and heat resistant enough to endure all the torture involved in making that happen!
