About this Costume
Construction Details:
EDIT: I was never quite satisfied with the way this costume looked on me, so it was put on the shelf for a while. But after losing some weight, I decided to pull it back out, make some adjustments, and take it out for a shoot with Soulfire Photography. She is amazing! The work she churned out makes me so happy. Photos were taken at the Eno River State Park.
Now back to our regularly scheduled description....
Clothing--
Because she lived and died in a mental hospital, I tried to work it into the costume. Therefore, I tried to make the night gown and coat fit me, but not to look like they were made to fit me (IE a little loose in some places). I dyed both pieces to dull and gray the color. In order to get the drowned look (Tomoko reportedly drowned in the hospital pool), I gradient dyed both pieces in a mixture of black dye and black paint (for a grainy look), adding more color towards the bottom, to make it look like the water had pooled there. I also used a silicone-based caulk on the bottom hems, shoulders, and neckline to give it a clear, shiny look. Take it from me, do not use the caulk indoors!! The label's not lying when it says "may cause nausea..." I also frayed the clothing edges with scissors and sand paper. The whole thing was a pretty big learning experience.

Wig-- See wig styling notes.

Makeup--
Because Tomoko drowned in a freezing pool (as opposed to a pond or ocean), I decided to go with just a blue look (and gray for the general ghost effect). I was really proud of my makeup on this one. It took about 4.5 hours to put on, but was totally worth it. Please message me with any makeup questions (or suggestions! I can always use suggestions!).

Personal Thoughts:
Excuse me...Wet rat coming through...
