About this Costume
Construction Details:
This costume was made up of 3 (and a half?) layers, which common sense will tell you is a very bad idea in July. Too bad there was no common sense around when I was making this costume. The gray underclothes were bought or borrowed. I found the shoes at Goodwill (a very sturdy pair of shoes they are too!). The gloves were cheap gloves I bought and cut the tips off of, then hand-sewed the edges to prevent them from fraying (I had no idea what hemming was at the time). I sewed the pleather apron/skirt, and bought a prop gun and ammo belt to attach to them. I also made all of the pockets/containers, first constructing them out of cardboard, and then covering them with various pieces of cloth. Finally, my aunt helped me a lot with the cloak, introducing me to the concept of lining, which I needed in order to sew the straps holding the containers to the inside of the cloak to prevent them from showing up on the other side. How novel! I can't remember what fabric I used for the bandana around my face, but I know it wasn't breathable. At all. I suffered a lot at the con, haha.

I find it interesting how few weapons the merchant actually has on him in the official art.
