About this Costume
Construction Details:
Coat- This was by far my favorite part of the costume. It is a heavily modified Cosmode Classic Coat pattern. I used a cotton blend. The whole thing is interfaced to give it that rigid quality his coat has. The moon on the back was hand cut, hemmed and top stitched as are the yellow details on the inside. The rest of the yellow details are bias tape. So much top stitching! All the stripe things are attached by heat n bond. The cuffs are simple rectangles.
Under Armor- AKA ghetto pleather tank top. It is pretty much all the pleather I had left sewn into a rectangle with detail seams. I didnt have enough to go all the way around so the back is just cotton and a zipper. The silver top is costume vinyl I had laying around. maybe not the best choice.
Sash: leftover from Saito
Pants: salvation army find. There are holes in them where I laced thin elastic through to rig my leg armor.
Shin armor- Started as a trapezoid pattern with my calf and ankle measurements. Then it got put into pleather, had darts added and zipper installed. Then a random semi circle for the knee (which never stayed in place.....
Socks are from eBay
Shoes: again, jacked from Saito. I painted them with acrylic paint and it surprisingly didnt crack or peel...
Eyepatch: Chalkboard fabric (yes it exists!) in two laters with that octagon shape and with elastic.
Katana/Rokusou: Bought in Little Tokyo. I was actually really mad at these because with the sheath they were 32 ins which was already shorter than I wanted but for $10 each I didn't complain. But then I got home and the blade was a good 6 inches from the end of the scabbard. I raged. But I dealt with it. The swords are kept together by a mess of wrapping and knots that I figured out as I went and clipped to belt buckles on my pants using carabeaners. then the fabric was fashion taped to the sheaths hahah.
All armor is craft foam, acrylic paint, hair dryer, modgepodge, and frustration.
Personal Thoughts:
This cosplay is brought to you by elastic.
Honestly, I love my Masamune cosplay so much. The costume itself is nowhere near perfect, but I just felt so proud and giddy and cool whenever I wore it. I loved the way the sword wiggled, I loved my awesome shades so I wouldnt get a headache from the eyepatch, I loved my awesomely layered wig. hrnng just so much greatness in this costume

Styling Notes
I like to learn a technique (in this case scene style layering) then attack random parts of my wig with it. I just went at this thing for a few hours till I was happy with it. I want to change the bangs.....
Wig Review
As always Arda Wigs are my favorite!
