About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
This costume has been the most involved thing I've made since my Mytho costume in the summer of 2010. Homura's costume looks simple enough, but there is a lot that goes into drafting all the pieces, so that they lie neatly, symmetrically, and don't do anything strange. The purple-grey fabric started life as a grey-shot-with-purple poly-taffeta, that I custom dyed; in sunlight it look grey. In shade or indoor lighting, and under camera, it looks purple. The ribbons are made from shantung, and all of the black detailing is also shantung, with satin-stitching. The under-skirt is bridal crinoline nylon with ruffles made of casa crepe. The black under shirt is made of a cotton sateen. The wig was made by sewing two wigs together to make it extra thick.
- Personal Thoughts:
- I wasn't completely satisfied with this costume at first. Then, I tweaked it a little, wore it with my fellow magical girls, and now I couldn't be happier!
