About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
The shirt was where all the real effort went - the fabrics were sporty, mesh-type athletic fabrics (a bit pricey, but I wanted the garment to be authentic. And I was glad for the shirt's breath-ability in the Hotlanta weather.) The long jacket was purchased off the rack and then altered to fit better (since it was a Men's L.) In the future I may add a belt to it.
The boots and pants were both pulled from my closet and the bow, arrows, and quiver were purchased my local Faire. - Personal Thoughts:
- The only thing I enjoy more than dystopian literature is dystopian literature that features young women who kick serious ass. I think I got midway through the first book of the series before I realized I had to be Katniss. :)
Since Katniss is specifically described as being of a darker complexion, I wanted to try my hand at some new make-up techniques. I used MAC's Face and Body (N5) to darken my skin (face, neck, hands), then went back in with bronzer to define features, added some brown and black smudges for dirt and soot, and used Ben Nye's Final Seal to seal it all. (If you use MAC's F&B I -highly- recommend pairing it with Final Seal - I didn't rub anything off and I was sweating like a madwoman.) When being photographed in the sunlight, I still washed out a bit, but indoors it looked pretty convincing!
And yes, I was denied the Hunger Games panel (Lord only knows why they put a panel about one of the year's most popular YA trilogies in a room for what, 100?)
