Construction Details:

Okay..this was an interesting project. The jacket itself was easy at least. I modified a civil war jacket pattern to create it and used gold ribbon for all the trim. The bootcovers were made using vinyl and zip up in the back.

The hard part..the wing. I had a concept in my head but i wasn't entirely sure how to put it together. I started with the blue insulation foam and carved out the entire wing twice. Then I cut out smaller sections to give each section a little depth. I then cut the wing into 4 segments so that it would give a curved look when on the pole.

I used foam glue to glue all three pieces together then carve out the top where the PVC pipe would go. I then sent to work covering the entire thing with many many layers of gesso. After that it was time to bend the pole. I used a torch to bend the sections of the pole at the places where each piece would meet. Then I attached industrial strength velcro to each piece and each wing so that I could take it apart easily for transport, and would allow the wings to each have a little free movement when I was wearing it.

Then it was time to paint. I covered the entire thing with a coat of black spray paint and let that dry. Then I used a textured white and grey mix spray paint and did a layer over the black.

The harness system was difficult to figure out since I had to counter balance the weight of the one wing. I used a flag pole holder, bolted to a piece of plywould and then added bars that wrapped around both sides of my body to keep the holder from tilting. I used cording to create straps that went around my body as well as across the front of my chest to help hold it in pace.

Personal Thoughts:

My friends wanted to do an 07-Ghost skit so I set to work trying to come up with something that might help spark some interest in the series that so many people don't know about. This costume was one I was really fascinated with trying to attempt so I decided to base the skit on the battle with kor Mikage. Its a difficult costume to wear because of the awkwardness of the wing but I actually really enjoy cosplaying Mikage. Out of all the characters, its his personality that probably fits mine the best.
