About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
This is one of those costumes that started out all clean seams and good construction and devolved into safety pins the day before we were set to go to Disney.
Anyway, I started by drafting the bodice and belt, and then drafting each of the "feather" leaflets so that they would layer over each other and give dimension to those two pieces. I found this fantastic netting embroidered and beaded with peacock feathers, so I ended up layering that over some of the leaflets and one of the large drapes in the back to spice things up a bit. Most of the gold is the same handmade gold taffeta bias tape that Ali and I have used on our last billion costumes or so. (I had to go out and buy more taffeta to finish, which I think means we may be stuck on this disturbing cycle. >. - Personal Thoughts:
- I really love all the fabrics I found for this dress. For the petals on the train I found this great thick synthetic that reads turquoise on one side and rich blue on the other. I also found a gorgeous brown/gold dupioni shot with teal, which I used around the hem and to make the little gold feather leaflets on the train. I regret that I wasn't able to incorporate more of the black dotted chiffon into the skirt, but maybe that's a project for a future wear.
