About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
White kimono is a circle dress with wide sleeves, made out of white bridal satin. Purple under-kimono is the same, except longer and made out of purple poplin. Red ribbon and a pair of red furry balls are added to the sleeves as decoration. Shoulder of white kimono is slashed and decorated with silver string. Obi is made with black satin with gold bias tape, and the red and gold dragon design is hand-painted. Gold decoration on white kimono, gold cross and gold hairsticks are all hand-made with paper clay. Pearl necklace is made by stringing large fake pearls together. I was wearing a beige tanktop and bike shorts underneath, and white socks and platform flipflops complete the costume.
- Personal Thoughts:
- Oooh boy this costume. Love it to death, only get to wear it once, won my only masquerade award with it as well.
I have quite a fetish for white-haired characters, and due to my height I usually do loli characters. Technically Hinoto is not a loli, but she is tiny, elegant, frail and tragic, and I can't help but be drawn to her. I made this costume mostly during spring break 2005, sewing in the common room of my dorm because the kimonos are too damn long (they are 6-feet-radii circles!). The wig was also a disaster; I used paper clay and thick wires for the ornaments so it was heavy as heck and keep dragging backwards. I did felt AMAZING the few hours that I get to wear it around ACen, but moving around was a pain. I was quite immobile due to all the fabric, and I kept being mobbed by people wanting photographs. It's too bad I had to chuck my costumes due to moving, I really want to remake the wig and wear this costume again for a proper photoshoot.
Wig Details
- Wig Brand
- Unknown
- Wig Name
- Long without Bangs
- Original Color:
- White
- Styling Time
- 4+ hours
- Styling Notes
- Bangs are cut in front, and the hair that was removed is wrapped around a pair of figure-eight loop of wire to make the hair loopies at the back. Hair sticks are sandwiched between the wig and the loopies. The whole damn thing was so heavy that it barely stayed on my head, hence the slippage in most of the photos.
