About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
Oh boy... here we go. Body suit is 4 way stretch gray & black spandex, with 4 hand dyed darker gray panels & a jacket zipper up the front. seamless leggings, 1920's WWII replica pilot goggles have been scratched with a brillo pad & aged using shoe polish. Gloves are faux leather to be soft enough to bend without being worn in too badly. About a bajillion fasteners & rivets are in these baby's along with 2 handmade belts on each & nylon mesh over the inside of the elbow joints. All the tassels are upholstery suede doused in no fray glue. Harness is bonded leather with more rivets. Belts are leather with MORE buckles, studs & rivets, same with the tomahawk holster & the pistol holster... I think at this point I'm wearing enough leather to cover a horse. Boots are a brown suede base boot with extra zippers sewn in along with bonded leather straps & MORE rivets (RIVETS EVERYWHAAAR UP IN HURRRR) & black corduroy to extend the boots up past my knees. Knee guards are a cheaper version of the official Rocker O'Neal pads Blondie wears in the film. I was SO happy to find a real throwing tomahawk with a heart cut into it
- Personal Thoughts:
- Probably one of the more complex costumes I've made. Half of this costume was made after Hurricane Irene hit & knocked out my power for 4 days. I really thought I wasn't going to be able to finish it in time for our Dragoncon group. Thanks to good friends, I was able to knock most of this baby out over at their houses by jacking an outlet from them. The rest? Well, yay for sewing by candle light for a post-apocalyptic, dystopian costume. Kinda fitting. One of the hardest parts was doing my makeup right to get myself to look as close to Vanessa Hudgens as I could. Both of us being Hispanic is about all we have in common. I don't really have her face shape, olive skin tone, pouty lips or pretty eyes, but I did my best to mimic her facial expressions.

- Styling Notes
- So, Arda wigs are really fantastic quality. So good in fact, that they're heat resistant. Which didn't work so well for me trying to put a light curl in the ponytail extension. After 2 previous methods I finally yanked out my steamer, threw some curlers in it & steamed it for about 15-20 minutes to bend it to my will.
