regular version & TARDIS version from Dragoncon 2011
I wanted to make a Marie Antoinette costume and the light blue fabric I ordered showed up and it was ROYAL blue. No returns! So I made it work.
I used Simplicity 3637 and 3635 for the corset, petticoat, panniers and dress. I used Jean Hunnisett's Period Costume for Stage and Screen as alternate directions - it was extremely helpful.
My corset I used blue striped cotton and plain canvas with spiral steel boning. My panniers were white eyelet cotton with hooping.
The dress came together pretty easily but slowly; I made the silver and blue pleated trim, and beaded it with clear and blue beads. The underskirt fabric was a gift from a friend.
The wig was a frankenstein of 3 separate wigs. I added some rhinestone hair pins I found, and had extra pieces I'd created for the necklace I also sewed in place into the wig.
I also made the necklace and earrings.
I decided since it was such a TARDIS-y blue I'd make some extra TARDIS pieces to wear for fun at Dragoncon. My idea was, if Marie Antoinette met the Doctor, how would she reflect that meeting in her dress?
I bought the little hat and re-covered it, and made the "Police Box" sign out of black satin with heat-transferred design. The windows I made out of white satin, interfacing, and leftover blue taffeta. I bought a fan, pulled the fabric off and used it as a pattern to create my sign fan. I painted the interior onto a cotton underskirt. All of these pieces are held on with magnets so they are easily removeable.
I also made K-9 a matching jacket.
In 2014 I wanted to wear it again, but I wanted to change it up. I used my own hair and bought and altered a hat, bustled the dress and painted a new underskirt.
