About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
The shirt I thrifted and took the collar off of. The doublet is a stiff cotton blend in a turquoisey teal. I altered a doublet pattern to be six pieces rather than three so that it had the splits that Flynn's outfit does. I interfaced the flanges with craft foam I had lying around, padded the top half with some leftover fiberfill from my Muppet project at school before quilting it. The entire thing is quilted, but the bottom isn't padded so it doesn't show as well. I may fix this in the future. I thrifted the pouch for 99 cents and got a new purse to serve as the satchel, and I used pants and a belt I already had, as well as one my dad didn't want anymore and passed off to me. I ran out of time to buy pirate boots, and Joann's ran out of my boot top pleather, so Sacanime has me in normal boots (but they do have defined cuffs in a way).
- Personal Thoughts:
- TUMBLR FAMOUS? First, I just want to say, on the day that I completed this head to toe, I am absolutely thrilled to have this costume and have been curled into a ball of happiness all day because my childhood dreams are coming true and I am a Disney prince~ I think the last time I was this happy was the first time I had cookie dough ice cream.
This costume is deceivingly difficult for how it looks. I spent a lot of time working on this mostly because Joann's went out of stock of the fabric I wanted/needed (what I ended up using), so I went through a week and a half of testing swatches until I got the right color, but then the entire sheet of fabric bleached drying in the sun, so when I went to get more dye and fabric (I botched the doublet trying to pattern it myself), of course the fabric I wanted originally was back in stock. I got that as well as a doublet pattern. The alterations were still somewhat difficult, and quilting took a while and was rough on the padded parts. I spent a lot of time stressing over the pouch, but when I eventually found something functional my problem was solved.
Wig Details
- Styling Notes
- All I did was style the bangs in place, as well as the parts over his ears
- Wig Review
- It's a really great wig!! I have three Derek wigs from Arda, but I guess this one isn't quite long enough in the back and around the sides for Flynn. I'm happier with it than with my Spain wig, though!
