About this Costume

I have always loved this picture, so I had to make the costume. This one was one of the first costumes I made solely by myself. It took me forever to get done because I kept putting it off (it was worked on and packed away over most of 2004-2005!)! I modified a renaissance gown for this, after much trial and error. The main dress (the back) is casa satin, and the purple is baroque satin. The black belts are also baroque satin, for contrast against the rest of the black fabric. It is a pretty comfortable costume to wear, and the purple pieces that fall under the sleeves and skirt are separate and slip on underneath to eliminate extra seams. I hand-gathered the ruffle around the collar. I took some liberties with some things (like raising the collar, lowering the height of the side-slit, to name two) for comfort. The purple belts are also adjustable, in case there was too much room in the waist and I needed to take it in. :]
