Construction Details:

I actually bought the base kimono, because I found a suitable one online for about $30, which would be how much I'd spend on authentic kimono fabric ANYWAY so I went ahead and bought and already assembled one.

I actually used Rit dye remover on the sleeves and bottom of the kimono and it ended up bleaching the fabric, by some miracle! then I dyed it like... 3 different times the teal color. It was pretty tough to get a nice gradient because if the teal touched the pink it'd turn purple. I ended up having to dye it, use color remover and dye it again, and it ended up giving me a nice gradient.

I didn't have time to do exact butterfly heat n bonds like the exact designs she has in the artwork.. so I ended up doing a lot of searching and settling for some cute ones I found at joanns.

This costume is VERY WARM. I wear a nagajuban, and a juban (which I added on a hand painted striped collar to with a collar stiffener), and the kimono is very heavy. It feels like a winter kimono. I fold it traditionally, I have an obi makura and other accessories.

In order to save myself time while getting into costume, I made the obi velcro, and the drum pre-sewn. I stuffed it with batting and added a system of snaps.

The obiage took a lot of work. I cut out tons of squares of blue and teal fabric, and serged them all together.

I also made Nii-chan! That was a lot of fun xD~
