About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
Skirt: There are eight panels of metal mesh fabric and four panels of plastic webbing. The pieces have been covered with vinyl and painted gold. The detailing was done with craft foam, sealed with white glue and painted.
Shoulder poofs: Each shoulder poof is made out of two pieces of cardboard and one piece of plastic webbing. The pieces have been covered with vinyl and painted gold. The detailing was done with craft foam, sealed with white glue and painted. They attach to the breastplate piece with velcro.
Breastplate: The base of this is a close-fitting, darted bodice, which attaches at the sides with velcro. The breastplate itself is made out of cardboard, covered in vinyl.
Leggings: I basically copied the shape from a pair of stretch pants I owned and made them out of gold stretch.
Turtleneck: The body/neck are made out of the same material I used for the leggings. The arms are made out of some excellent 4-way stretch I received as a gift.
Gloves: I used this tutorial. The gloves are made out of the same material as the arms in the turtleneck. - Personal Thoughts:
- Good ideas, bad execution. This is probably my most difficult costume to wear. Because of the stiffness of the skirt, I can't sit or really bend at all. And once the entire thing is on, it's very, very hot and kind of claustrophobic.
Wig Details
- How was the wig colored?
- SPRAY PAINT LOL
- Styling Notes
- In the movie, Dot's hair looks like a helmet that's been shellacked. So I took my Fai wig (it's had a good long life) and ran the same gold spray paint I used for the rest of the costume over it a few times. LOL
