About this Costume
Construction Details:
Since I was doing the version based on the 1966 TV series I wanted to make it as accurate as possible. I ended up doing a lot of research on what materials were actually used and how certain pieces were made. The tunic is supposed to be wool with satin lining but I said eff that because that's ridiculous. Still wanting to get some texture for the top I used a linen/cotton mix because it had a really nice weaving to it. The grommets were hammered in and I sewed in the satin ribbon. I could not for the life of me find T-shirt fabric in the correct color so I ended up buying two plain shirts for the top and panties and dying them with a custom mix of kelly green, dark green and black. The cape is 100% satin and nearly killed me! I had to redo it so many times since the fabric didn't want to cooperate. The cape snaps in the front like the original and also has the appropriate snaps on the shoulders and back to keep it in place. The gloves and boots are a soft vinyl and are actually pretty comfortable but soak up heat like no other! The belt was bought at Target and I added Sculpy for the detailing.
Personal Thoughts:
This costume is so fun to wear! I'm such a Robin nerd and really, who doesn't want to be part of the dynamic duo? After taking a joke progress picture where I stuffed a sock in the panties, someone suggested I do that when I wear the costume for real. I put up a poll on DA asking if I should wear a cup and got on overwhelming reply of yes's. So I went through with it and it ended up being a pretty funny day overall. lol
