My first attempt at (weirdly off but awfully close) 18th century clothing. The coat was the biggest challenge, modified from a JP Ryan historical pattern. The front and neckline are machine embroidered with a created design, and the bias trim was accented with a decorative stitch. The buttons of the coat are embroidered with a design that mixes into the collar embroidery when the button is on.
The waistcoat is accented with a different decorative stitch on the front edges and the pocket flaps.
Most of the buttons are fabric-covered ones, the exception being on the cuffs of the shirt.
Lots of stupid hand-finishing, many times out of necessity and not so much out of want :)
Materials: Mostly silk, linen, and some wool cashmere for the breeches..all good things for a noble emo guy/girl.
The sword is the work of Darieum. It incorporates a blade cast in silicone molds from plastic, as well as other cast parts. The ultimate goal of the end result was to make a sword that had both thinness and durability, as we fully intended to do some mock combat onstage. - Personal Thoughts:
- This was, admittedly, not my first choice of costume from the series (I don't consider myself the best crossdresser), but the more I started building it the more I really got into D'Eon's character and clothes. It is the first opportunity I had to use my embroidery machine in a project, and I feel like I learned a lot on that front. I think the thing that surprised me the most is that it ended up far more comfortable than I anticipated it would be.
