About this Costume
Construction Details:
Let it not be said that a truly badass cosplay cannot be constructed on a very tight budget. The dress/smock was made from "winter wear" fabric that gives it a nice leathery look and rather than pay $70 for studs to put in the armor, I got a $2 container of thumbtacks, a $5 container of clay and made them myself. I had a remnant of red pleather material that I used to make the head and armbands, and the belt, which I braided. I got the buckles from 3 belts from Goodwill. The wig was the most expensive purchase, but still not a budget breaker. I made then pants from a pattern I had and out of red tag fabric. The shield and the sword are both made out of pink foam insulation. The shield is 3 layers of the stuff, meticulously carved, shaped and sanded and then covered with tissue paper and modge-podge hard coat to make it extra resistant to rough handling. It was then painted silver and red and the sigil on the front is made of the leftover wonderflex I got for Christmas. The handles on the back are made from the same pleather remnant as the headband, armbands and belt. The sword is one single layer, but two separate pieces; the hilt and the blade. There's also a dowel running down the middle to add to the stability. It was also covered with modge podge hard coat MANY times.
