About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
A lot of modification of the Simplicity Renaissance Doublet Pattern. I had to use a lot of interfacing due to my fabric choice being a dupioni suede (I was told by the judges. It was a discount suede I had found by chance). About 20% of this puppy ended up being hand sewn (including the hat being entirely hand sewn). There are no seams showing on the inside, and it's all lined with a nice lighter orange stretch satin to match the sash. The shirt is also done out of an off-white satin. This was also my first time at a number of things, prop painting, fur-dying, shoe painting, and embroidery. I used metallic thread to embroider the white wings on the shoulders to give it a bit more of a royal look after seeing some other fanart designs similar. The fur dying was EXTREMELY tricky as it was a combination of polyester and acetate. IT DID NOT DYE AT ALL XD I ended up concocting my own formula very similar to what you'd use to dye a wig and I haven't really had any problems with it flaking, or the fur looking painted and matted. Over all it was a lot of work but the effort does show off I hope.
- Personal Thoughts:
- A lot and a lot of learning went on with this costume and through this it has earned the nickname, Murphy's Law Costume, because anything that COULD go wrong with it, DID. I'm happy it's done and I'm very proud of this beast, but I don't know if I'd do it again if I had to for some reason xD I ended up finishing it about 3 hours before judging so there was some significant panicking going on.

- First time using sheered scissours and I learned fast, TAKE YOUR TIME. A few scars and bloodshed ensued but the wig was beautifully thick and fizzy like I wanted it to be.
