About this Costume
Construction Details:
This is the second costume I made from scratch, and I'm pretty happy with the results! Elizabeth was pretty popular with those who knew the character and those who shouted "Look! It's a giant bird." The only small problem i have is finding something else other than an umbrella to use as the costumes structure. Because of the handle in the middle, it is hard to stick both my hands in the costume's arms, and but my face close to the opening of the mouth to see where I am walking. But there are benefits from this such as it's convenience closing the umbrella and store the costume easily, so i may just keep it this way. I felt that my method of making this costume was pretty unconventional because instead of planning out what to do and cut the cloth before hand, I decided what to do as i went along. Bought 4 yards of white cloth, folded it over the umbrella, and spent a lot of time thinking about how to make the costume as smooth as possible. After making the body, i used the left over pieces to make the arms and eyes. I used a black marker (tried to get those fabric markers, but did not have time or means) and drew the eyes on one of the left over pieces of white cloth. Then cut and sowed it on the boy. For the mouth i bought yellow cloth (store minimum was 1/2 yard), made a small hole where i wanted the mouth to be and then started to sew on the mouth. Basically I shaped everything as I sewed. The whole thing was hand sewn except for that part where i used markers. It took me 5 days to finish this. I will fix the mouth for future conventions because I was in a rush with the con the next day. ((Elizabeth was pretty popular at Kintoki-con and because I had to leave the left the convention early i lent the costume to my friends to play with.))
