About this Costume
Construction Details:
I made this costume over the course of a couple of months in early 2010 for an Onechanbara group at Anime North 2011. The group didn't come together for the con, due to the poor weather at AN and some bad timing, but I was able to finish and debut my costume at the con anyway. It was a fairly simple costume. The top was made from stretch knit fabric based on McCall's pattern M5854. The skirt was made from Simplicity pattern 4963 and proved to be challenging to make, but turned out really nicely. It's not a very recognizable costume as I decided to make Saki's outfit from the lesser-known Wii game Bikini Zombie Slayers, but it's pretty comfy and fun to wear. I look forward to when the group comes together and I get a chance to Cosplay with Ammie as Aya and Jukebox as Annna and get more photos of the costume.
Personal Thoughts:
This was meant to be a really simple costume, but it turned out to be a tad complicated as the skirt pattern was pretty tricky to follow. I paid close attention to some costume details but skipped other things. I was really happy that I was able to find nearly perfect green flower hair clips for my wig through eBay, but I decided not to make funky fingerless gloves from scratch or make her sword harness. I'm happy with the liberties that I took with the costume and I tried to stay true to the character. I had a heck of a time managing the wig though. It was really heavy and the wig cap was big so it took me quite a while to put it on before I went to AN 2011. Hopefully I can find a better way to pin it before I re-wear the costume. As my costume was pretty obscure I wasn't recognized at AN, but I was mistaken for Cosplaying from Sucker Punch a few times. XD

Styling Notes
I took out the pre-styled pigtails and hot water straightened the wig. It was a challenge to straighten as it was tough to find a space in my house to accommodate hanging the wig to pour water on it and it was super heavy so it was tough to keep it steady.
