About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
The shirt is made from white poplin and black sateen for the cuffs. I added the two layers of ruffles to the front. There are 10 buttons in all although the hidden ones are much simpler than the pearl like ones you can see.
The cape comes in two parts with the teal making up most of it. The black ruffles are made from marked and cut black casa satin. The crown detail is screenprinted to the fabric; this was my first time screenprinting so there are spots are are lighter than others.
The skirt is made from 3 yards of the teal and about 3 yards of white sateen cotton for the ruffles. The top corset like waist was drafted and has 10 lengths of boning, 6 grommets, and is held in place by ribbon and a zipper. The striped bow was cut and sewn into place (nothing too difficult).
There is also a white cotton underskirt with eyelet lace underneath and a pair of white cotton bloomers with crochet lace that I also made.
The bonnet was cut from part of a hat pattern and uses leftover teal fabric, pink striped fabric, black and white striped ribbon, and pink satin ribbon. - Personal Thoughts:
- I've cosplayed Ciel three times, but lately I find myself liking my peripheral vision and wanting to cosplay Lizzy. This is one of my favorite outfits so it seemed like a good place to start.
The cape and the teal part of the skirt are made from a teal peachskin like fabric. I love the feel of the fabric; I love the color and how it flows. I absolutely HATE working with it. The weave is so tight it dulls my pins.
I also broke sewing needles on this thing. I've worked with ruffles before, but combine the ruffles with the tightly woven fabric...I'm just surprised I only broke one needle.
