About this Costume
Construction Details:
The petal skirt definitely took up the majority of the time on this costume, everything else was pretty straightforward! Oh dear lordy, dem petals... this costume has been affectionately nicknamed "Banana Butt" for fairly obvious reasons xD;; I patterned the petal skirt from scratch using stiff interfacing and my dressform, basically cutting out shapes and pinning until everything laid how I wanted. The petals themselves are heavily interfaced, and all of the white bias trim was blind stitched by hand, which was quite the time consuming task ^^;;. All the little gemstones are applied with fabric glue, they were all white originally and I "dyed" the green ones with sharpie, which worked perfectly (thanks to Maryssa's brilliant idea *___*)!! The little springy bow has horsehair braid inside to keep it perky and bouncy! I'll probably line the bottom-most petals with horsehair braid before fanime as well, just to help them out in the stiffness department... but they held up pretty darn well for Anime Conji so I'm happy with them ^^.

Oh, dem bootcovers were quite the frustrating task, too ... ^^;;. Shii Arisugawa (our Yayoi-chan!) paved the way for us by creating an amazing pattern for us to use. I opted to sacrifice a pair of white gogo's to the cosplay gods by cutting them off at the ankle, then built the vinyl bootcover over that so the cutouts would show. Twitter helped me figure out that E-600 is the way to go with gluing stuff to vinyl, cuz those rhinestones did not budge! The little butterfly/flower shapes at the top of the bootcover tie in the back right above the calf with a shoelace, just like the anime/game art :D
Personal Thoughts:
Ahhhh I've been wanting to make Miki's Floral dress for soooo long! I've had the fabric for almost a year, but no pressing reason to make it... when Angel Hearts was invited to guest perform at Anime Conji, our SoCal crew decided these would be perfect for a springtime con! Sadly it rained most of the weekend, but we had so many people telling us that we "brought the sunshine" to the convention! We joked about that amongst ourselves all weekend, but then for our outdoor Matsuri performance we really DID bring the sunshine ~ it came out sunny and warm just as we got on stage, and the rain came back as soon as we left... the timing seriously could not have been more perfect, and it was a wonderful wrap up for a very fun weekend. I luff my Angel Hearts girllllls ;w;!!

Styling Notes
New Miki wiiiiiig! Another cosworx wig, but from their updated line. It's pretty much the exact same style as the Rose I had before, just a slightly different fiber type and shade. I wasn't sold on the color when I first got it, but it grew on me over time and I think it did end up looking a lot like my original Miki wig, so I'm happy. ;w;
