About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
Completed May 2011 I used different varieties of stretch spandex to make the bodysuit, leggings and arm pieces. I did all the paterning myself. The sequins are hand-beaded on, most were leftover from Amano Rydia with some from my upcoming Kraehe added in, as well. I hand-strung the beads for the neckpiece and the strands that connect the leggings to the bodysuit. The drapes were made out of organza (I used two types, a yellow/green and a red/green coloration), which I'm willing to bet is the most difficult fabric I've had the chance to work with. It's thin, slippery, hard to cut precisely and rips apart very easily because it's loosely woven. Not sure if I want to deal with the stuff ever again! Wig was lightly styled, I was a bit sad with how flat it is and am hoping to either volumize it or add onto it in the future so it looks more like the artwork, but due to the time constraints I was under and a budget, there's little I could do before Fanime. The hairpiece is made out of craft foam, resin gems I cast myself, and feathers with a colored gradient I did myself, too. I also beaded strands to that, as well, and added rhinestones for the glitzy look I saw in the art. The bracelets and anklet were custom-made by me, beaded on stretch illusion wire.
- Personal Thoughts:
- This was a pretty last minute costume! As such, much of this is recyled materials from previous Rydia costumes, with some newly bought fabric, and new shoes and wig purchased to complete the specific look. I fell in love with Sakizo's artwork for Rydia and knew I had to make this - plus he gave her a petite frame and big, brown eyes, how could I resist?! I like how 'sprite-like' the design, is, too. I had been meaning to make a Rydia costume more along those lines, and less the 'big and fancy wow factor' Amano type.
