About this Costume
Construction Details:
Rob Lantz and I put together a GGG group for Katsucon 10. We worked on each other's costumes non-stop for weeks before the convention. He actually started working on the armor parts months ahead... Anyway, Primada is probably one of the most complicated, hellish costumes I've ever made. She's a friggin' motorized ballerina!!! And she's lavender! All over! The base is a body suit made of a cotton/lycra blend that was dyed in our kitchen sink. So yes, I dyed the material, then made the suit. The maroon sections of the costume attach by velcro and sling under the crotch and up the butt where it hooks into the suit. A red, pleated spandex cape is attached at the back of my waist. The belt is decorated with paper clay blocks and the back has a compartment for the breast headlight batteries which are wired through lots of little grommet holes in the costume, under all the lighting. So the major discomfort of the costume is the mass of wires poking me as I move. The shoulder pads are vinyl over floral foam, and inside is the battery pack for the left/right turning lights on my shoulders. The circuit is closed by two snaps on my finger/thumb. Gah... There's so much to this costume! I'll come back and finish writing about it another time.
Personal Thoughts:
This skit burned me out for years on making multiple costumes for a skit... Made the Green Mamoru, did the sewing on the Guy suit, a few props and Danny T's jacket for his costume.
