About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
Baiken is 100% cotton blend (sounds like an underwear commercial). Lots of heat & bond & satin stitching. The most fun part of the costume was ripping, burning & distressing the sleeve end. The rest of the costume just felt like a chore for me to make. I learned from this experience to never make something unless my heart & soul is in it 100%. I love this hobby & I never want to feel like its a chore or a burden. But I made a commitment to get it done & I pumped her out in a week. The scar is liquid latex, rigid collodion & liquid makeup. The wig is 2 pink wigs clipped together. In the future, I'm going to sew a comb into the front to keep it pinned in place from all the weight.
- Personal Thoughts:
- I was asked to judge the Cherry Blossom Festival's cosplay contest at the Smithsonian, hosted by the DC Anime Club. It was a fun experience being involved in a costume contest in a gorgeous place like the museum. The curator of the event asked the judges to wear elaborate or Japanese culture geared costumes. So I used the chance as an excuse to sew Baiken. I couldn't take my wooden katana to the National Mall (obviously) so I substituted her weapon for a paper parasol instead. I wish I had more time to apply the makeup. I could have done a MUCH better job with her markings & her scar, but I literally had 10 minutes to get ready before going on stage. I plan on fixing up the costume, making it fit better, make her claw hand & chain & doing a better makeup job with more time & wearing her in the future. Possibly to Animazement.
