About this Costume
Construction Details:
This is a deceptively easy-looking costume to make...I have never made chaps or a vest before so there was a lot of trial and error when drafting the pattern for it! The jeans and the yellow/greenish short jacket and red top were store bought - did not need to alter the jeans, they were grey in color and skintight. The jacket was found at Ross and was originally a size M white cotton jacket. I had to custom dye it 3 times (once yellow, once lime green, and once tan to get that dirty/tea-water look to it) before it remotely resembled the color it is now. I also had to resize the jacket since it was too big - the pockets had to be torn off and resewn on and the sleeves had to be shortened as well. The red top needed red bias tape sewn on to match the darts on Lilith's costume. I did not find fur that was a close enough match for her fur-lined collar so I used the next best thing - a feather boa (lolol). The chaps are actually made out of the reverse side of a brown suede fabric and are held up via a brown leather belt. The pistol and holster was bought from walmart toy department and customized with black elastic attachments so it can be worn on the thigh, and the belt going through the holster was a utility belt bought from a military equipment store then cut up and customized. The netting on the back of the collar and shoulder pads is actually from a pair of fishnet stockings that I cut up and stretched over the base vest fabric haha. The gub butt pad (that green quilted square) was made with green wool fabric , doubled up with a layer of canvas in between for thickness. The shoulder pads also are made of several layers of fabric to get that padded look and feel. I handmade double folded bias tape from the same fabric since there were no ready-made ones that matched the color. The airsoft gun was lovingly borrowed from Silver_Ruby. I am still working on the wig and boots part of this costume and want to take the finished parts out to some dirty grimy area to dirty it up for that gritty Borderlands feel :)
Personal Thoughts:
I absolutely loooove playing Lilith in borderlands....I have never been a fan of FPS games before but this game made me hooked on it! I love how versatile she is as a character, you can use her as a shooter or a melee fighter and she can also stun/daze and cripple enemies with a variety of additional effects. Hoping to find a decent looking but cheap SMG for use in photoshoots soon so I can cosplay her with a weapon she is more proficient in :)
