About this Costume
Construction Details:
This costume was quite difficult for me, but I challenged myself and I am excited about the end results! THE WIG: The panda was a lucky find at Hobby Lobby. It's the beanie baby "Bamboo". The leaves I chopped from one of my mother's floral arrangements (shhhhh!). The wig and ponytail were brought from two local wig stores. I kept the ponytail shoot because a.) Its already difficult to navigate without a super long ponytail and b.) i ran out of time+money to find a super long wig to use for a ponytail THE GLASSES: I brought some red framed, weak, reading glasses THE TOP: The top is a heavily, heavily, heavily modified pattern. It was the most difficult part of the costume. There is a lot of machine and hand sewing on it. The sleeves aren't attached so i can have use of my arms (It was difficult to hold my arms up when they were attached) THE SKIRT: I made this pattern myself. It wraps around and snaps on. The front panel then snaps onto the longer skirt. LEEEEEGS. THE BOOTS: I found some black, wedge-heel ankle boots for $7!!!! I then covered them with red and white fabric. This was my first time ever doing anything like this and, while it was a difficult process, I think I have learned something. THE STAFF: The staff is a 1 and 1/2" diameter pvc pipe with cap ends. I hand painted the staff and then spraypainted a clear gloss over it. It's about 6 feet tall and very lightweight. FINAL THOUGHTS: If I was to make this costume again, it would be way better then this version because i have learned so much. However, this costume has shaved a few years off my life so I will take the skills I learned and move on to the next costume :)
