Construction Details:

This is probably the most involved project I have done to date, in terms of construction. The flight suit is based off a onesie-type Halloween pattern for a lion or bear (and the thing looked like a bearsuit until it started getting zippers and buttons xD). It is constructed out of chocolate brown anti-pill fleece. The collar was hand-patterned out of "leather" table vinyl, and then lengths of foam caulk saver were machine-sewn inside. All the zippers on the outfit function, including pockets on each sleeve. The belt was handmade with twill fabric, a belt buckle, and grommets. Boots and gloves were purchased, and sherpa fur was added afterward. The message tube was a replacement copper pipe section, with spray-painted plugs for each end and a seal made of Sculpey and painted red.

Personal Thoughts:

When my good friend Steph (Skwinky) was musing about the one dream cosplay she'd like to do, if she ever had the chance, she started showing me the artwork from Last Exile and I absolutely fell in love. It's one of the few animes I've watched, and afterward immediately purchased the box set--it is just that amazing. I was thrilled when she asked if we could be Claus and Lavie together; I wouldn't have had it any other way! Afterward, we started talking to our friends about it and found that a lot of them were dying to do a cosplay from the series, as well. Somehow...we ended up with Alex, Alvis, Mullin, Dio, Lucciola, Tatiana, and Alister. How even--? It was amazing to cosplay with my own good friends, as well as meet new people whose cosplays were a major part of why I began watching this show. I can't even. UGUBUGUGUUUUU. <3
