About this Costume
Construction Details:
This costume is almost entirely silk, found at a fantastic price or I never could have done this. Silk was white and all hand-dyed, including the clouds front piece (resist-dyed, never painted!), except for the cross-dyed ultraviolet trim, which was purchased silk from which we made bias tape, and the brocade, which was reused from a disassembled Goodwill silk jacket. The strip of gold at the base of the clouds is satin, the only non-silk. A strip of charcoal bias tape edging the hanging pieces and the gold tassels are the only commercial components. Oh man oh man oh man, I do love the colors and luminosity in this. It turned out gorgeous. :D The robes were made in authentic fashion, using the fabric itself as "interfacing," but modified for the source's aesthetic. Even my undergarments are largely authentic, as I'm wearing mompe (made of bamboo/cotton blend) underneath the robes.
