About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
I used the same pattern I do for all my poufy sleeved dresses. I thrifted a shirt and then made it new, poufy sleeves, which took a ridiculously long time because I got a fabric that was too stiff to gather properly. I also put red bias on the collar. The dress is blue suiting with ruffles sewn onto the armholes. The apron is some white scrap fabric I had. I had ribbons tucked into my shoes to wrap around my ankles, but I took them out for a few seconds to fix them up and they...disappeared? So they're not present for the shoot. I needed a petticoat for like 10 costumes leading up to it and had managed to get by borrowing other people's, so I made one myself out of one elastic drawstring, 16 yards of white ribbon, and four yards of crinoline and ALL of the gathering. I sort of cheated with the petticoat and let it serve as the white underskirt, oops. I may fix that sometime.
- Personal Thoughts:
- I finally did it! I'd been wanting to do Sakuya for about a year, under pressure from a few people, and the idea kept growing on me, so I made it to wear with Megan as Remilia at Otakon. We didn't end up finishing Remilia in the hotel room, but that's fine, I had enough fun wearing it by myself. I made a petticoat myself for this, so by the time I finished this and the last few things I had to make in preparation for Otakon were ruffles, I was pretty much the ruffling queen.

- Styling Notes
- No actual styling--I'm actually pleased with it as is. I wish the braids were a little thicker, but I'm one of those people who are terrified of styling and messing up wigs, so I was happy to settle for this. It was really hard to find a wig that was a decent color, length, and cut without braids that looked absolutely atrocious. I was expecting this to be too short for me, but it's the perfect length~
