About this Costume
Construction Details:
This was my third tutu ever made. There was a lot of love and work in this costume. The tulle is all hand pleated then machine stitched onto a lycra panty which I made from scratch even down to the bais holding in the elastic. I also added ruffles for cuteness. There are about 9 layers of tulle all together decreasing in length as they get closer to the bottom. The basque and the bodice were silk dupointe and lined with 100% cotton twill for stability then serged all the pieces together. For both pieces I made bias tape then added cording for even more stability. The basque has an elastic waist for comfort. The bodice has boning to help maintain the proper shape. I had to fit and re-fit this several times before I got it perfect. I used hooks and eyes for closure points. The applique is all hand beaded (my first attempt at beading since I was 11) The outter skirt I had no pattern for so I created my own supersized compass then shaped it accordingly. The feathers around it were each hand trimmed then I lined each one with a row of beading for extra sparkle though you really can't see from these pictures. I hope to have another shoot done with just me so you can see more of the details. The wig was blonde that I hand sharped the whole thing with pink and peach to try and get the right color. Then I sewed batting to the wig and glued all kinds of feathers on. The tiara is hand beaded with wire and then I glued on rhinestones.
