About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
The pants and boots are the exact same ones I used earlier. Everything above the waist is new.
The shirt was a women's Carhartt shirt I nabbed from Goodwill. I just added the front princess seams and the back middle seam. Took in the sleeves a little as well. I didn't have time to silkscreen on the S.T.A.R.S. lettering on the back, but I will do that next time.
The new shoulder armor is made out of a much sturdier upholstery vinyl. The sides have 1/2" green upholstery foam to pad them out, and the back piece has 5mm foamie piece in it. I did want to put in some foamie inside the collar piece, but I couldn't get it to work. I forgot to bring along some wire with me to the con so that I could put it in the sides in order to keep it from sticking out in the back. So, that will be the first thing I fix. The harness I used is still my old one, but I'm probably going to remake it since it's kinda falling apart.
I did use a wig this time around since my hair is too short right now. It was some random, dark brown wig off of eBay. I may get a better one in the future, but it works.
The gloves are Hatch Reactor gloves from my favorite army/navy surplus seller on eBay. I'm debating just making my next pair from scratch since the Hatch Reactor gloves are only just similar to Jill's.
Beret was from some random seller on eBay. I cut out the weird cotton lining it had, but I didn't get a chance to shape it, so it looks a little wonky on my head.
The S.T.A.R.S. patches are from SciFi Geeks. I didn't have time to attach them properly so I cheated and fashion taped them on for the con.
Old Costume Stuff:
The beret, beret pin, boots, shirt, gloves, watch, gun holster, and BDU pants were all found and bought. The pants were a super lucky find!
The rest of the gear I made using a lot of black nylon webbing/strapping of varying widths and various buckle closures. The shoulder armor is made out of a nice navy blue vinyl with functioning snaps that attached it to the nylon webbing harness I made. All of it was pretty easy to make, actually.
ACen also had pretty new and strict rules on gun props. Rather than take a gun, I opted to use a Playstation controller! It got a couple of laughs. - Personal Thoughts:
- Jill is one of my favorite characters, and she's by far my most favorite cosplay. I'm glad I got a chance to update this and give it a little more polish. I'm going to keep on making it better though!
