About this Costume

I don't even know where to start. Ashley and I had this brilliant idea for a skit, and I had (for whatever reason) wanted to make this version of Yui since I started watching anime. I'd actually cut the wig several years ago (first wig I ever dramatically cut. Before this it was used for my Alice and before that it was styled for Holy Bell, which never happened. This wig and I go WAY back.), as I'd intended to make Yui's school uniform to wear with Hilary's Miaka, but it's nice that I was able to finally get this costume out of my system.
So I actually managed to do this really well, if I may say so. I used part of a red floral applique I found for Yui's collar, but hand-embroidered all the green, going off of the largest reference picture I found. The gold bias tape was hand-sewn, which I admit I love doing. Considering I only had a week, I managed to get a lot of hand-sewing done, including the hem on both sleeves and attaching all the cord, and sewing all the bows and knots into place.
The purple was all cut and hemmed (using my serger. I love you, serger.) on the bias, which gave it that ruffly look, and the skirt material is 2-way stretch, which allowed me to give it that ruffly hem at the top.
On a completely nerdy level, the necklace I found (and altered) has seven flowers now, and the cord I used on the skirt has a sort of scaly appearance.
Overall, I'm really, really pleased with the sewing I managed to do in 5 days. The sit-ups can come later. - Personal Thoughts:
- I'm really happy to have finally gotten this costume out of my system after about 10 years of wanting to wear it. Fushigi Yuugi will always have a special place in my heart (possibly because the costumes are full of tedious handwork), even if I do think it's really stupid.
