About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
From top to bottom, the hair thing is just two types of bias tape with snaps. The necklace is some beads from Joann that were initially rainbow colors and some kind of stone, but I painted them. They were the only ones that were the right shape. They're restrung on fishing wire because that's the only thing that was small enough to fit in the hole. The cape is two layers of slightly matted brown faux fur from Joann, tied with leather lacing.
The corset is two colors of moleskin. I added bronze round studs to the corset and trimmed the top with scrap fur from the cape. It laces up in the back (and the front) with leather lace, and I ordered bronze grommets for it, but they ended up being too small, so I had to get gold ones from Joann because it was too close to the con. I cut the holes a bit awkwardly, so I'll have time to order more and remake the back panels entirely. The skirt is a darker brown moleskin, and I burned the edges of it.
The shoulder armor is craft foam backed with some scrap fabric I found and buffed in silver, with the designs hotglued on, with an elastic strap sewn on. There was a visible strap in the original art, so I figured that was alright. The bracer is made from the same brown moleskin as the skirt with slightly charred edges. The white sleeve was made from a cheap broadcloth and a couple elastic bands, and I made custom bias for the brown band around it from some scrap fabric I had lying around. The shield is craft foam that I painted on top of and attached with elastic, again. The sword I already had from previous versions of Hungary. - Personal Thoughts:
- CLEAVAGE! THIS was my dream costume!!! I've actually been putting it off and putting it off because I was too afraid to work on it, but the more I put it off, the more time I had to think about what I wanted to do with it, and I'm pretty sure that time for thought was worth it. I was mostly worried because the corset was confusing to me, and I'd also never made one before. But I'm REALLY proud of it.
It's not actually as difficult as I expected it to be? I'm not sure why I was so intimidated by it. I probably could've made something more complex if I put my mind to it, but this is definitely the most complex thing I've made to date. Either way, I'm really happy with it, and I'm excited to get photos back~
