About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
From the top down, I painted some hairsticks from the Icing and made the hairclip out of Sculpey and hotglued a bobbypin to the back. The scarf is the only piece of this I am really proud of when it's not physically on me, and it's all fleece and a zipper. It's super comfy! The base for the bikini top and the hotpants as well as the sleeve and bracelet covers (bracelets from the Icing) are all black metallic spandex. The flames are red vinyl heat-n-bonded to the top. I forgot to add the beads I made to the ties. I got lazy and just bought fingerless gloves since spandex was not my friend and I was not about to make them. The gems were my first real experience with resin casting, and my father was amazing enough to help me out. I bought the belt and hand-studded it and applied a crappy craft foam buckle that I forgot to seal. The socks are from Sock Dreams and were the third pair I got for this and the only one that really worked, and I hand-painted the boots and altered them. I need to find a better way to paint them because they crack around the toes. I also cut them way too short because I forgot my legs are like three and a half feet long. MY BAD. I have a few touchups to do (replace one of the fake zipper pulls on the boots, maybe get new boots, and cast a couple new gems), but I'm pretty okay with the turnout, though nothing came out as nicely as planned for all the effort I put in.
- Personal Thoughts:
- This costume was a lot more difficult than I was expecting it to be. I'm not much of an accessories person to begin with, but it took a while to compile. The sewing was the least of my worries. I'm actually a lot happier after actually putting it on than I am with it lying in a pile, so I'm pleased. And people seemed receptive to it (though not like it takes a lot for people to be receptive to someone who's not morbidly obese in a two-piece). Still, I'm pleased.

- Styling Notes
- Then I brush and brush and brush and brush my hair. When will my life begin? Seriously, I do it while watching Disney movies. I haven't really done any bangs styling or ponytail poufing, while I probably should. I just don't care enough and am not good enough with wigwork.
