About this Costume

Worn at A-kon 21 I absolutely love Shunya Yamashita's artwork and the moment I saw the Nasca figure I knew that I had to do this costume despite the fact I was intimidated by those wings. However, I was determined to make this costume. I have always been curious about wonderflex and despite it's cost, I decided to just go for it. In fact their is almost more wonderflex on my costume then their is actual fabric. It got expensive quick but I didn't really care. I really wanted to do this costume. For the wings, I used craft foam for the base, and covered it in the wonderflex. I then painted it with a combination of silver rub n buff and black acrylic paint to give it that worn look.. I secured the wings with screws. I am very happy with my wings and they even won me best craftsmanship. The rest of the armor pieces were also done in wonderflex/craft foam although next time for the armor I think I will try a less expensive option. The gloves and stockings were also sewn by me. This was my first time sewing gloves and I wanted to cry however in the end I succeeded. I don't think I will be sewing gloves again though. It was a bit stressful!!!! The bra/top was an actual bra that I covered in brown fabric. I then made the body armor (the piece on her stomach that was attached to the bra)out of wonderflex and foam and sewed it on to the bra. That is the really cool thing about wonderflex. You can actually sew through it!! I love this stuff! The wig color is a bit lighter than the character but it was the best I could find last minute. Unfortunately, I ran out of time and was unable to make the sword but plan to complete it when I get the chance.
