About this Costume
Construction Details:
Originally planned to do Ico, but when I heard Hime no Toki was doing him, I volunteered to be her Yorda since I'm taller and paler than her :D No sense in having two Ico's running around when you can have an Ico and Yorda! I also absolutely love anything by Ueda, and this game needs all the homage it can get. The hardest part about her was figuring out what the hell was going on with her dress. It's very... ghost-like. It just disappears, and has no seams. I got a nice knit white fabric for the base, and lots of sheer stretch fabric to give it an ethereal look. A lighter, more skin-tone looking fabric is around the shoulders and goes down to my back, since her dress kind of just disappears there. The brown details on her back, sides, and around her chest are zig-zag stitched on. There are three layers to the sleeves, with two different colors. They're cut in jagged edges to make the transition smoother, and to once again attempt to make it look like it's disappearing. Yorda's bat wings, as I like to call them, were sewn into the sleeves, and then hand-stitched onto the base dress. We didn't even notice they were there until we went back into the game and saw something hanging there! They make me feel like Batman. The shawl is made of two brown fabrics: a heavier weight knit and a sheer knit. It's hand-stitched onto the sleeves. There is sheer white fabric over the base part of the dress. This helped dilute the brown details where needed, and helps the ghost look a bit more. The wig, when I got it, was very gray. I dyed it by spraying a mixture of brown and black Sharpie dye mixed with alcohol. I'm very happy with the way it turned out, because her hair always looks a different color when you look at it at a different angle, and my wig does the same thing. It didn't require much styling, either, since I got a wig with lots of wisps and layers in it. I got purple contacts for her. It was difficult to tell exactly what color her eyes were, but in the end, we went with the color they were on the American box art. That box art is just awful, but... it's canon :/
