About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
I made the cloak by modifying and combining elements of a poncho and a cloak pattern, and used a heavier-weight cotton. It's lined in a silky magenta lining (according to reference images), and I love the contrast of colors! The collar was drafted up from scratch, and interfaced to hold its shape better. The medallions are model magic, which I used a smaller cup to imprint the inner ring.
I made the skirt and strap/'suspenders' out of a slightly stretchy knit material. The anklet is a tube of gold lame' stuffed with fiber-fill. XD
I've gone through a few different wigs in attempt to get the right look, but ultimately ended up going with a Punky XL, which I trimmed and further spiked and heat-styled with steam for her notorious 'emo mop'. - Personal Thoughts:
- I have so much love for this girl. A lot of fans of the show say they don't like Melfina, but she was one of my first favorite anime characters because of her gentle, sweet personality, and the fact that she started out in the series with absolutely nothing and grew into her own as the series progressed.
Her costume design isn't the most flattering when transferred to real life, but there's still something oddly appealing about her stupid poncho, and I absolutely love cosplaying her.

- Styling Notes
- Cut and styled thicker bangs, tamed the initial poof with hot water, and attempted to spike out the ends.
