About this Costume
Construction Details:
Top - Made of a cushy dark blue stretch knit. The pattern was modified from Simplicity pattern 2556, a collection of vests. I made it double thick to make the fabric more opaque, and the inside is seamless. The pearls were bought from JoAnn's in a multipack, They are beaded on clear stretch cord and sewn to the top by hand. Each string starts and ends with a smaller pearl. Skirt - Modified from Simplicity pattern 4401. At first I made it from a white stretch knit, like the top, but dicovered the pattern didn't allow for stretch material, and the fabric rippled and bunched at the seams. So the first try (which is also double-thick) was downgraded to the slip, and a white costume satin was purchased to make the skirt. I chose to use the 'wrong' side of the satin, since I didn't want the skirt to be too shiny. I'm very pleased with how this turned out. I added in a train to the skirt, which is the only change I made to the pattern. The skirt hem is double-rolled, and the slip's hem is seamless, to minimize my heels catching on anything. Shoes - $5 pointy black heels found at Goodwill. So far, these are the only cosplay shoes that I could actually wear with everyday clothing. Wig - Purchased from cosplayanimewigs on eBay. It's four feet long! I wanted to go longer, but decided to go for practicality rather than accuracy. Minimal styling was needed, just a trim on the bangs. The wig tangles very easily. I have to brush it thoroughly every time I wear it, even when I just threw it on for a quick progress shot. Jewelry - Made with leftover pearls from beading the top, and beading wire. The top pearl is glued onto a blank earring post from my local beading shop. Makeup/Accessories - I don't have any shots of it in here yet, but I do have a Silver Imperium Crystal to cackle over. For makeup, I used a brush-tipped eyeliner to paint on my black star. I'd like to get a stencil or stickers someday, because I'm bad at making the points of stars equal. The lavender lipstick is a combination of a pale mauve lipstick and some lilac eyeshadow. Eyebrows are colored black with mascara and touched up with black liner. Heavy black eyeliner and black/silver eyeshadow for the eyes completes the look.
