About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
Cocona had been my dream cosplay for over a year. The moment I saw the figurine I completely fell in love, and the artwork is even more gorgeous.
After about a year of no activity and extreme costume recycling I decided to finally go for it, and go all out!
Getting ready for this costume involved months of workouts and weight training to get in shape to wear an outfit this skimpy. I also needed a very large budget and a lot of time since I planned on making all the parts myself.
The sword:
Cocona's sword is taller than her and in my case, that meant a weapon that was about 6 feet tall. The final sword has a wood base, which has styrofoam glued on both sides, which was sanded/sculpted to give the blade it's sculpted shape and thickness.
The styrofoam was then covered in fiberglass cloth and given 2 coats of epoxy resin (shoulda gone for 3...) to give it a smooth edge that could be spray painted on.
The sculpture in the middle (which I call the heart) was made entirely of several layers foamies painted over with glossy acrylic. The bevel center of the sword is made of styrene stacked on top of foamies and carved to resemble the design.
the circular accents are either sculpey or the bottoms of easter eggs =_=
The armor:
All of the armor pieces were made with foamies + styrene following Amethyst Angel's technique. - Personal Thoughts:
- The most difficult part of the costume was making it all come together. Most of the chest armor had to be glued onto my vest the day of the con. And the stockings and leg accessories had a knack for just rolling right off.
Overall I felt greatly accomplished to finish this costume and to convice some of my friends to join me in a Shunya group!!
