So much applique! I just totally fell for this character and costume design when they were introduced in Detective Comics during the Batwoman Elegy story. I waffled a bit on deciding to make it, but eventually decided to go for it and started collecting materials. For the boots I used a base pair of boots, painted the soles white with Plasti-Dip, cut the shapes out of craft foam, painted those in Plasti-Dip(I got a create your own color kit to mix the colors), glued everything together with Shoe Goo, and sealed the sole with a few layers of clear Plasti-Dip. For patterns I started with Butterick 4954 and Simplicity 2832 and went from there. As previously mentioned all the designs were done by applique, and took quite a while to do! I think I went through three spools of just the blue thread. I used canvas and sometimes interfacing for support for stitching on the appliques. The upright collar has a layer of interfaced muslin on the inside as well as cable ties for lightweight boning. I also made the piping in the collar out of the green satin I was using. The sleeve cuffs are made out of matching chiffon because the satin was too stiff to drape well there. The wig is a Shirley from Amphigory, which I did not realize has a side part because it does not look that way on the model in the picture. So I have to wear it crooked. And that made trimming it to look symmetrical on with the part in the center a little awkward too. I spritzed the ends of the wig with a dye I made with a flamingo colored Sharpie to try and mimic the inking and coloring style from the comic. I ordered the little gold skulls on the zippers of the sleeves. I hemmed all the layers of the skirt with blind hem catch stitches done by hand. I had to layer two pairs of tights to get my legs looking white enough. I attached garter straps to a pair of boyshorts to wear over the tights. The thigh highs are Leg Avenue brand. I got lucky and found the ring at a Forever21. And the makeup is mostly a combination of Ben Nye and Manic Panic products. Some changes I made to the design were making it more modest, and adding more buttons to it to increase functionality.
