Construction Details:

This costume was a real learning experience for me :P. Still, I have alot of fun running around and pretending to be pretty and feminine. I was lucky enough to take a trip to Shanghai with my family so after scavenging through a fabric market there, I found some pretty (though admittedly cheap) satin. The qipao top was drafted by me first with scrap fabric, then copied onto the pink satin. For the skirt, I simply created a circle skirt. As for the button closure on the qipao, instead of taking the more traditional method of making frogs or other knots, I took the liberty of crafting little flowers to match that in my hair. Taiwan is described as a modern country who has a taste for fashion so I wanted to show that inclination in the details of my costume. Shoes were a dilemma for me. I hate the clash the red slippers made with the rest of the costume and also felt that the gold accents weren't used quite enough so I found a pair of gold heels which I choose to bring the color into balance and also to continue showing love for fashion.
