About this Costume
Construction Details:
After working on Rydia, this costume was a breath of fresh air. A simple, but still cute design. My friend really wanted to cosplay as Gwendolyn, so I decided to join her as Velvet.

I tried to consider different fabric textures, so that way this simple little design would still have some depth. I opted for a black metallic spandex for her top for a "leathery" look. For Velvet's namesake, I used velvet for her hood and also on her Tudor-styled sleeves. I decided not to use velvet on her "skirt" because I wanted that to still remain flow-y, rather than stiff and structured.

The first time I wore this costume, the psyphers were just diamonds cut out of scored plate bristol, which were then painted with some red gouache. As gross as gouache is, it looks great in photos because of it's matte nature. That's why concept artists in the 1970's loved it so much (a bit of unnecessary art-nerd info for you @_@). The second time around I got to have some psyphers made out of plexiglass, which were cut and filed by me, with the assistance of my friend, who works as a jeweler.
