Construction Details:

This was the first time I had tried to create a real kimono, so it was quite the learning experience. Both the yukata and nakajuban are cotton and made by following an authentic Japanese kimono pattern from Folkwear. The flowers on the yukata are appliqued, the obi full length and tied in the traditional "drum knot." When I debuted this costume at ConnectiCon 2008, I had my own hair cut and styled in Fuu's hairstyle. Later, not wanting to deal with those annoying bangs, I improvised and added a clip-on ponytail. Between styling the hair, makeup, and just putting on the clothes in the traditional Japanese fashion, this costume takes about two hours just to wear.
