About this Costume

When I discovered TF2 last fall, I immediately knew I wanted to cosplay from it. I picked Scout because he was the closest class to my physique; tall, thin, and leggy (he's also one of my most-played classes). I knew Scout is probably the most cosplayed class in TF2, so I decided that if I was gonna cosplay him, I was gonna do it right.
And thus started a 7-8 month project.
I actually went through 2 pairs of pants and 2 shirts 'till I found the right ones. The pants now are gray slacks I found on eBay, which I then shortened and added elastic to the bottom hem. The shirt was found at Target. The socks were found at the local sporting goods shop near my college's campus. The belt I already owned, and the hat was found at a local hat shop. Dog tags were also purchased on eBay. The bag is made from scratch (I drafted the pattern as well), full lined and heavily interfaced. It actually holds quite a bit, and is perfect for keeping all my con stuff in. The shoes are a pair of Adidas "Vintage Turf" shoes, which I -carefully- seam-ripped one of the stripes off of on each shoe.
The headset was originally a pair of hearing protection headphones. I removed one earphone and painted the remaining one orange. I also had to paint part of the 'headband' silver, as well as part of the microphone. The mic is from a cheap skype headset. It's not was long as I wanted it to be, but I'm okay with it (though I will eventually replace it). Small details on the headset were made from black model magic and craft foam. - Personal Thoughts:
- TL;DR: I took a super-simple cosplay and drove myself crazy with little details. But it was worth it. I had an absolute BLAST wearing Scout. The fellow TF2 cosplayers I met were some of the coolest people I've ever hung out with at a con. =]
Also, at Otakon, I teamed up for a bit with my friend Din, who was dressed as Navi from "Legend of Zelda" to become video gaming's greatest annoyance. "HEY! LISTEN! NEED A DISPENSAH HEAH!"
