About this Costume
Construction Details:
this was my first attempt at making clothes and it came out exactly as i pictured it. i had so much fun making this outfit that i want to make more. everything in total took me about a week.i bought 2 different white fabrics(one for the headband/shirt/collar and another heavier one for the vest/collar), 1 type of black fabric that was quite heavy, elastic, black lace, headband, and black ribbon. All the materials totaled to about $50 (added things like thread). here is a breakdown of each piece.
SKIRT: the waist was made with an elastic band. there is a layer of (stuff that makes skirts poofy - idk what its called) and another fabric layer underneath that so its more comfortable for my skin.
VEST: made with the heavier white fabric. i made it so that it could be slipped over my head because it was too small to install a zipper. i lined the front edges with black lace and sewed on black ribbon to the front.
SHIRT: i used the lighter white fabric and made a strapless shirt with ruffles on the top. then i made the outside collar (i dont know what else to call it. its the triangular shaped things) and cut outs of the sleves. then i attached everything together to finish the top
COLLAR: using some leftover fabric i used the lighter fabric and made some ruffles. i attached this to a strip of black fabric and fashioned the ends to form a loop so i could slip some black ribbon through and tie the ends together.
HEADBAND: i made more ruffles with the lighter fabric and also made a loop at the bottom so i could slip it into a plain black headband. i found a plain black headband at clair's that wasnt too tight. usually tight headbands give me a headache after a few hours or wear. i slipped the fabric onto the headband, scrunched it up, tied ribbons at the end, and fastened the ribbons with a glue gun.
APRON: i made more ruffles and attached it to a U shaped piece of cloth. i attached a long piece of fabric to the top so it could be tied around my waist. in the end the straps weren't long enough to make a cute bow i wanted so i made a bow with left over fabric and tied it together with the apron straps.
